Saigon Vietnamese School Inc. was founded in September 2001 and incorporated on the Eighth day of January 2002. The school has since operated at Brimbank College and currently occupies Wing A which consists of 9 classrooms plus staff lounge, rest rooms, Conference Room, theatrette and photocopying facilities. Due to its continuing expansion, the school in 2007 will be running Vietnamese classes on Saturday at Stevensville Primary School which is also situated at St Albans.

The school in the year 2006 has an enrolment of 261 students coming from western suburbs, aged between 6 and 18.

The staff at Saigon Vietnamese School has created an atmosphere of warmth and friendliness and is extremely proud of our open door policies applied to the school community as well as all members of Vietnamese and other ethnic communities in the areas. The school believes that the teaching of Vietnamese Language is a shared responsibility and works in partnership with parents to promote a supportive and caring environment for all Vietnamese-Australian children.

Our school philosophy ensures that we cater for a broad range of Vietnamese linguistic and cultural expectations which are apparent in our multicultural society. It is based upon the firm belief that each student needs to:

- have a strong sense of self-esteem;

- strive to reach their full potential;

- develop high standards of personal conduct; and

- understand the concept that in Australia, people with ethnic backgrounds are able to live together without having

  to abandon their culture and languages in order to merge into a more inclusive one.

We offer sequential programs in Vietnamese Language structured on multiage principles.
In addition to these programs we offer an extensive range of special programs for newly arrived Vietnamese children to help them assimilate to Australian society and particularly the Australian education systems which are obviously unfamiliar to them.

We also offer special programs for children with learning difficulties in other Two Key Learning Areas including Mathematics and English As Second Language to help them achieve the target learning outcomes set out by the Victorian Curriculum Assessment Authority.
