Malaga

The Costa del Sol is a 150 km long with calm waters, permanently blue skies, beautiful beaches, hills, mountains, lakes, forests, traditional villages, towns and historic cities.

Málaga, named "the city of paradise" by Nobel Prize winner Vicente Aleixandre, is the capital of thés lovely region. It enjoys an extraordinarily mild climate with an average temperature of 22°c and 330 sunny days !! It was founded by the Phoenicians and has been a Roman colony and a Moorish city, reflected in its many monuments such as the Roman Theatre and the Arab Alcazaba.

Málaga offers sailing, water skiing, windsurfing, tennis, squash and, of course, golf. All along the coast are numerous riding stables where horses are available for long excursions into the mountains or for riding along the sandy beaches at dawn.

There is a wide range of popular festivals such as bullfights, Flamenco music, Holy Week processions, the August Fair. Numerous Tapas bars and restaurants where you can share local Spanish life.

Málaga is in the centre of Andalusia and close to Granada with its Alhambra, the Sierra Nevada with its skiing facilities, La Mezquita of Córdoba and Seville. Just across the Strait of Gibraltar is the magic of Africa.

The Institute

The institute is located in the historic centre of Málaga in a completely restored modern art building, surrounded by the city's historical monuments and parks. This is an ideal environment for combining a friendly, welcoming atmosphere with high quality Spanish tuition and academic success. The school has the additional advantage of being close to all amenities. Within a few blocks you can find a wide variety of shops, restaurants, banks, cinemas and theatres. The beach is only 10 minutes away.

The Programmes

A wide range of courses for students wishing to learn or to improve their Spanish. Students always learn the language with a background of information about life and attitudes in Spain.

Courses are designed to help students feel confident in using the language on a daily basis and in all kinds of social situations. From the first day, only Spanish is spoken in class.

Group classes (1 lesson = 45 min.) are usually held in the mornings, from Monday to Friday, and are kept very small (max. 8 students) in order to ensure the highest teacher contact and efficiency. Students with previous knowledge take a Level Test in order to determine the most appropriate class for their level.

The course price includes:

·         Text books and study material

·         Welcome and farewell meetings every 4 weeks

·         1 guided visits per week to museums and monuments in Málaga

·         2 video sessions/week

·         2 flamenco dancing lessons/week

Standard Course: general Spanish tuition on ten levels, from 2 to 16 weeks. Studies cover all aspects of the Spanish language: listening, talking, reading and writing. There are daily homework assignments and grammar review every Friday. The course programme meets the Spanish Ministry of Education’s DELE examination requirements. You can register at the CILE for these examinations. For more detailed information the CILE provides the "DELE Information Sheet" on request.

Complementary Standard Language Course: we offer 6 complementary courses to the general language course for students who can stay for upto 10 months.   

Intensive Courses: short, intensive rapid-results programmes for students with limited time consisting of 6 lessons a day, four in the group Standard Language Course (max. 8 students/group), and 2 extra lessons in a special intensive group (max. 6 students/group).

Superintensive Course: if you need more personal attention, you can enrol for the Intensive Course, 6 lessons/day, 4 lessons in a Standard Language Course, plus 2 extra private lessons.

Specialised Spanish Courses: for business, examination preparation, Hispanic studies, sport, sailing, diving, golf, horse-rising, tennis and judo.

Teachers

Methodology
Tuition is based on the most modern methods of education. We have developed own study materials, which are exactly suited to our courses.

The structure of the CILE-courses ensures creating confidence in handling the Spanish language. From the very first day, Spanish is the only spoken language in school.

Accommodation

Homestay: one of the best ways to get to know Spain and its language is by living with one of our carefully selected local Spanish host families. Students can choose between single or double room, half-board or full-board.

Shared Apartments: an alternative to family accommodation is living in fully equipped apartments, in single or double rooms, together with other students, enjoying privacy and independance. We offer two types (A and B) of apartments, type B being near the school (max. 10 Min. walking).

Independent Apartments: for students who prefer complete independence with additional comfort, we offer independent apartments for one or two persons. These apartments are completely equipped and not more than 10 minutes' walking distance from the school.

Hotel or Pension: we can reserve rooms in a hotel or a pension. More information on request.

Social and Cultural Activities

We fully realise that not all learning takes place in the classroom and that a language course should consist not only of lessons. Therefore our school offers a varied and exciting social activity programme for students. In our afternoon dancing course, you can learn the flamenco dance “sevillanas”, thus participating in one of the most popular expressions of Spanish life. We organises meetings where you can practice your Spanish in a relaxed atmosphere and have the opportunity to talk to students from other countries. Theatre and cinema visits, concerts, talks and discussions on special aspects of life in the host country, visits to museums and monuments and excursions to other cities will introduce you to Spain and its people. Students also have books and daily newspapers at their disposal in the students’ common room. In our video library they can find a rich variety of programmes: movies, news, documentaries about different aspects of Spanish life etc..

Examination Preparation
The Institute prepares students for the following official examinations:-

·         The DELE (Diploma de Español como Lengua Extranjera) examinations held by the Spanish Ministry of Education and the Instituto Cervantes in Spain and many other cities in the world every June and November.

·         The Chamber of Commerce examinations, held in Madrid and other European cities every June and November, to obtain the Commercial Spanish Certificate or Diploma.

Certificates and Awards

At the end of their studies students are awarded the Institute's Certificate or Diploma which states the type of programme, level, dates and marks attained. There are no fees for exams held at the Institute.

ACCOMMODATION *

The apartments are fully equipped, and the size varies usually from two to four bedrooms, living room, bathroom(s) and a complete kitchen. All apartments of type B are close to school (max. 15 minutes' walking distance).

(B) OWN APARTMENT **  

* 1-2 bedrooms, cooking facilities and bath room. The apartments are close to school and fully equipped.

C) FAMILY ACCOMMODATION (Half board) * 

Supplement full board: 40,- € per week

* The accommodation in shared apartment and in family have a summer supplement of 10% during July, August and September. ** The accommodation in own apartment has a summer supplement of 60 € per week from July to September, except August (please consult rates). JACA - Spain, Pyrenees

Situated to the north of Spain, Jaca lies at an altitude of 820 meters in the Pyrenees, with the beach of San Sebastián an hour to the west, Zaragoza 150 km to the south and the important city of Barcelona 300 km to the east. There are daily bus services to each of these towns as well as very good communications with the rest of Spain.

Jaca (pop.14,000) is on the old pilgrimage route which crosses the Pyrenees to Santiago de Compostela and, in fact, was also the capital of Aragón from 1035 to1095AD. Today, Jaca provides not only the perfect base for organizing excursions into the Pyrenees and nearby ski resorts but also holds many festivals of its own, most notably the Fiestas de Santa Orosia y San Pedro (June 23-29). During these fiestas, the city is alive with various concerts and plays, as well as with formal processions like La Comparsa de Gigantes (a company of characters in oversized costumes) and numerous ad hoc parades, which usually occur under the influence of many a malted beverage.

Comprised of 4 hours of class each day from Monday to Friday, it provides balanced coverage of grammatical theory and conversation. Minimum duration for the course is 2 weeks.

This course is designed for people with little time available, and who want to take advantage of this time to the maximum. It is designed to get the most progress in communicating in Spanish in the minimum time. The course is comprised of 6 daily hours of class in groups of reduced size.

One to One (Individual Course)

A flexible course that is adapted completely to the specific and personal needs of each student. The themes are elected according to the requests made by the student and/or their business organisation. The main focus is on conversation. Emphasis is given to themes relevant to the student’s profession, for example if the purpose is for 
the student to be able to conduct business proficiently in Spain. The minimum duration of this course offered is 1 week.

Special Programmes

To experience a broader view of the Spanish life style, students can enjoy a seminar given once a week by professionals from specific industries. The objective of these exchanges is to better inform students about social life and institutions in Spain. The guest speakers use a level of Spanish appropriate to their student group.

Methodology
We use the most modern didactic resources and materials. A Needs Analysis of the student's aims is essential at the beginning of each course in order to place the student in the most appropriate level. Classes follow the communicative method, emphasising the four skills required to communicate in a foreign language and the small classes mean that students receive individual attention. We also offer a language laboratory where the student can practice Spanish with the support of instructional material such as CD’s, books, magazines and cassettes.

Accommodation
We offer a residence, where students can enjoy of a warm and friendly atmosphere. The residence has a garden, bicycles and a swimming pool, where it's possible to refresh in summer. In addition, we also offer a number of other accommodation options.

Social Activities and Excursions          

The beautiful scenery of the Spanish Pyrenees offers nature lovers an extensive range of activities - both in winter and summer. From adventure sports to interesting cultural tours, the activities available can be of interest to visitors of all ages. Nature is the dominant factor. Lakes and meadows in the high mountains, forest covered slopes, deep canyons, and an extensive variety of ecosystems, provide an ideal setting for rest, relaxation, and the learning of the rich and beautiful Spanish language.

In winter, sporting activities are concentrated at the ski resorts: Candanchú, Astún, Formigal and Panticosa.

For the months of December until April, the Pyrenees are endowed with abundant snow and, with ski-runs and amenities of the highest class, these resorts are counted among the best in Europe. In addition, Jaca boasts a first class ice-skating rink, where one can practice ice-skating and ice-hockey. In summer, adventure sports such as mountain biking, hiking, climbing, and cannyoning become favoured past-times. Aula Hispánica can organise excursions with professional guides in many adventure sports, for interested students. 

This summer during the months of July and August the Festival International des Pyrénées meets in Jaca with forty-five folk ensembles coming from twenty-five countries and from all Continents. For two weeks, one or several groups from France or Spain, the two organising countries of the event, will join these international groups.

The Festival International des Pyrénées is especially appreciated for the groups it brings together, the sincere and friendly encounters and festive spirit of its participants. It unites an audience, delighted by so many colours, smiles and beauty, with thousands of international artists and a delighted local population.

Medical Insurance and Visa Requirements
If you are from an EC country, you should obtain prior to your departure a social security form E-111 to cover your medical insurance. If you do not belong to the European Community, you should arrange a private medical insurance before you leave home.

Cuernavaca

Cuernavaca: known as by the Aztecs as "Cuauhnahuac", Cuernavaca is a sub-tropical, exotic, garden paradise, just 60 miles (96km) to the south of Mexico City. With an average daily temperature of 23°c and cloudless skies, the town lives up to its reputation of the "City of Eternal Spring". A safe, friendly and hospitable colonial town where you can enjoy tropical nights and the rich cultural heritage.

ADULT PROGRAM

• The program offers 10 different levels from beginning to advanced, including the Native Speaker program. If a student new to the school is tested with an ability level falling between 2 levels, private instruction is provided free of charge for an 80 minute sessions (at the Director's discretion) to bring that student up to the next level.
• Our classes begin every Monday throughout the year. Students may study for as short as one week or as long as six months. Private and special professional classes may be arranged for any day of the week.
• Class orientation and testing will be given first thing on Monday morning. All students will be grouped by ability based on a brief written, auditory and oral placement test. Students will then be placed into the appropriate group of no more than 5 students (occasionally 6 in July).
• The objective of our group classes is for the student to develop good communication skills. Special courses for writing or translations skills and specific terminology are available.

Queretaro

Located in the heart of Mexico, 200 km. North from Mexico City, the country's capital and the world's most populated city, Santiago de Queretaro, founded in 1531, is rich in history and colonial architecture as well as being one of the largest industrial and business centre of modern Mexico.  

The historical downtown of the capital of Queretaro has been declared "Cultural Heritage of Mankind" by UNESCO. It offers its visitors the tradition of 470 years of history indelibly printed on its aqueduct, temples and large ancient colonial houses, making Queretaro one of the most beautiful colonial locations in Mexico.   

It is also one of the safest and cleanest cities in the country and only a few hours away from other colonial cities such as Guanajuato and San Miguel de Allende, a major centre for Mexican and international art.

Mexican Homestay
One of the best ways to learn Spanish is to combine formal studies while living with a Mexican family. This provides multiple opportunities to learn new words and expressions as well as giving an insight into daily life in Mexico. It is an enriching cultural experience that opens many doors and it is long remembered. A number of families have been carefully selected to provide security and a comfortable atmosphere for OLE students.

Hotels and Cabins 
If a student does not wish to stay with a host family, then there is a great variety of hotels and inns in the City and also some cabins.

Furnished Apartments
There are also several furnished apartments for rent (from a flat to apartments with several bedrooms). We recommend early reservations for this type of accommodation which is subject to availability and the length of stay.
