The Institute 

Our French language Institute in the South of France is situated in the heart of beautiful, historic Montpellier, minutes from the railway/bus station/tramway, the world-famous Place de la Comédie, the Tour de la Babote and within only 20 minutes of the airport and wonderful Mediterranean beaches. 

We are located on the ground floor of an impressive traditional French building, with a reception area, five spacious classrooms, toilets, offices, kitchen/cafeteria, library and a spacious central meeting/entertainments area with an electrically operated opening glass roof.

The French Study Programmes

Study abroad French in France programmes start every Monday all year round and are for students and clients of any age (16-75 years), from beginners to advanced. Students join the group most appropriate to their French language level, based on a linguistic assessment upon arrival at the Institute in Montpellier.

 Total Beginners: students with no prior knowledge of French follow a programme of individual tuition until ready to join an elementary group. Individual French lessons are available at any time.

One-to-One Programme * (Individual Lessons at the school)

Tuition times are flexible and may be spread over one or more weeks to suit the student's availability and the school timetable.

6 hours per day is considered the maximum intensity. 

For example, 09h00 to 12h00 and 14h00 to 17h00

Students may also participate in the school's usual social and cultural activities, according to the time of year.

Standard Group Programme: consists of 15 hours French tuition per week (09h00 to 12h00 Monday to Friday) in small friendly groups (average 5 to 8 students per level). Elementary to advanced levels.

Combined Programme: the morning group French course may be combined with individual French lessons in the afternoon, for greater intensity or to focus on special learning needs.

Summer School Programmes :  French Summer School in Montpellier (30th May to 26th September ): Just take a look at this fantastic inclusive summer package.......intensive group programme + free conversation classes + cultural ‘twinning’ with a local French person + accommodation search fee + guided visit of Montpellier + social and cultural activities + airport/rail transfers.  

 Accommodation options during Summer School include local homestay with half-board (private room, breakfast and evening dinner) at only 168 €uro per week (7 nights). Hotel and aparthotel options also available if booked well in advance.

Summer activities are all included in your language programme with the exception of the Thursday and weekend excursions and meals/drinks in the restaurant/bar on Friday evening.

Accommodation

In order to maintain linguistic and cultural continuity, we arrange homestay accommodation for you with one of our local, selected French hosts, situated within convenient travelling  distance from the school, either a pleasant and safe  walk, a bus ride or on the new tramway. Montpellier is quite a small town (200,000 population) and the centre is pedestrianised. Accommodation is usually half-board, inclusive of private room, breakfast and evening dinner. Accommodation can also be arranged for you.

Choose 10, 15 or 20 hours per week of individual tuition over a period of 1 to 4 weeks. Longer periods are possible and are usually split between two or more different locations.

The Institute

The Institute is situated in newly renovated premises in the heart of Montreal and has been offering language instruction for more than 40 years, preparing students for entry into McGill University, Concordia University and the Université de Montréal. There are usually about 350 students and 25 fully-qualified teachers. All classrooms have state-of-the-art audio-visual equipment and computer laboratories and the school has its own cafeteria.

The Programme

The French courses are 25 hours per week, Monday to Friday from 10h00 to 15h00, with 8-15 students per class, and consist of instruction in all the four language skills: oral, grammar, written and comprehension. All course materials are included. Courses are available from beginner level to University level.

Student Visas

A student may attend classes for a period of 12 weeks without a student visa. A student visa must be obtained for more a study period in excess of 3 months. In order to obtain a student visa, payment must be received in full. All documents will then be sent to the student.

Accommodation

In order to maintain linguistic and cultural continuity, students are recommended to stay with a French speaking Canadian family (home stay). Taste North American cooking. Accommodation consists of a single room and half-board (2 meals daily). Other accommodation options include: shared apartments, student residences and university dormitory (summer only).

Québec City, Canada

Located about 400km from the Gulf of St. Lawrence, Québec is one of the world's most picturesque cities and is the capital of the province of Quebec. Founded by Champlain in 1608, Québec City has about 500,000 inhabitants.

Québec City is rich in history and tradition and has a European flavor. You will enjoy the excellent restaurants and typical cafés. Québec is the only North American city, north of Mexico, to have maintained its fortifications. The Institute is located in historical Old Québec. You will love it!

Group Programmes

These programmes are for students (18 years +) who wish to improve their general French but who do not necessarily wish to prepare for an examination. No pre-requirements as there is an evaluation upon arrival to determine the most appropriate group. Regular group consist of 4 to 9 students. 25hrs of programmes per week including 5 hours in our audiovisual workstation. Nevertheless, for the purpose of level compatibility:

·         if there is 1 person in the group, the student will receive 10 hrs private tuition, instead of 20 hrs in a group (or 20 hrs instead of 40 hrs for 2 weeks)

·         if there are 2 people in the group, they will receive 15 hrs tuition (or 30 hrs instead of 40 hrs for 2 weeks)

·         if there are 3 people in the group, they will receive 17.5 hrs tuition (or 35 hrs instead of 40 hrs for 2 weeks)

·         4 people and over, the group will take 20 hrs (or 40 hrs for 2 weeks)

·         + 5 hours in our audiovisual workstation in all cases

Sessions start every Monday all year round for a minimum of 2 weeks. Classes from Monday to Friday, 25 hours a week, in the morning or the afternoon.

NB: The hours lost because of statutory holidays will be rescheduled during the week.

One-to-One Programmes

Designed for executives, diplomats, technicians and professionals. This programme is completely adapted to the student's individual needs (vocabulary, work situations etc). In this case, we would ask the participants to furnish their requirements.

Pre-Organized Corporate Groups

Usually consisting of 2 to 6 participants at the same language level from the same organisation or in the same field. Available all year round on the dates of your choice.

Combined Programme

In this programme you take 25hrs. per week in a group combined with a selected number of hours in a one-to-one programme.

Linguistic and Socio-Cultural Activities

Activities are not included in the 25 hours per week. However, the students may participate in at least one activity per week by themselves. These activities are planned in class. Excursions can be organized at the participant's request (at their expense). Activities and excursions are organized on location.

Accommodation

Host family (private bedroom, breakfast and dinner) or residence (breakfast). Accommodation is calculated starting from Sunday evening dinner to Saturday breakfast, extra nights and meals will be charged. Other accommodation options are available upon request.

Credits

Under the unique cooperative agreement between the the Institute and the University of Southern Mississippi, students who study at the Institute may earn from 3 to 15 semester hours of undergraduate or graduate credit from USM.
